Dr Soong-Yuan Ooi completed his undergraduate medical degree at the University of Adelaide in 2003 (MBBS) before undertaking his internship at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. Following this, he completed basic physician training at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in 2009 before progressing to Advanced Gastroenterology training. Having gained experience in general gastroenterology, liver diseases, IBD and endoscopic procedural skills at the Gold Coast University and Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Soong-Yuan was awarded his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2012. During this time, he also completed a Graduate Certificate in Health Sciences with a focus on Clinical Education (GCHlthSci). He furthered his post-graduate education with two years of clinical research post-fellowship training in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) at the Royal Adelaide Hospital IBD Unit.
Upon returning to Brisbane in 2015, Soong-Yuan Ooi has devoted his time to the development of his private practice culminating in the establishment of Gastrointestinal Specialists Brisbane (GISB) in partnership with Dr Jason Huang. He provides consultation services in general gastroenterology with a sub-specialty interest in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD), together with high quality endoscopy and colonoscopy including bowel cancer screening and polypectomy.
Soong-Yuan also provides his services to the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) service at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) and is the Clinical Lead for the North Lakes IBD Service – an extension of the RBWH IBD service. He has been an invited speaker at local and National conferences whilst also presenting research project both nationally and abroad.
